What To Wear For Family Photos

Wondering what to wear for family photos? You’re not alone! Many people have questions about what colors photograph well together, where to find coordinating outfits, and whether or not they should rely on their photographer to help with outfit selection. When it comes to selecting outfits for family photos, there are a few things you need to keep in mind. First of all, try to select colors that photograph well together. For example, earth tones typically look great in photographs, while bright colors can be a bit more challenging to work with. You don’t want everyone to be matchy-matchy. Instead, select colors that complement each other! Don’t be afraid to throw in some prints! Florals, stripes, plaids, they all work, and can sometimes make it easier to select other colors to use. If you’re not sure what colors will look good in your photos, ask your photographer for suggestions. They will likely have some tips on what looks good in pictures and can help you choose outfits that will complement each other and the background of your photoshoot.

Another thing to keep in mind when choosing what to wear for family photos is ‘fit’. You want to make sure that everyone’s clothes fit well – baggy clothes can look sloppy in photographs. And same goes for something that’s too small. If you’re busting out of the seems, you won’t be happy with that. It’s also important to choose clothing that is comfortable so that everyone will be able to relax and enjoy their photoshoot. If you’re constantly pulling or tugging on your outfit it’s likely going to show in your photos that you’re uncomfortable.

If you’re having trouble finding coordinating outfits for your family photos, don’t worry, there are plenty of places you can shop for clothing that will look great together. Check out department stores like Nordstrom’s or Macy’s, or browse online retailers like Amazon.com. You can also find coordinating clothes at specialty stores like Old Navy, Gap, or The Children’s Place. If you have a local boutique feel free to shop there as well (that’s where some of my favorite outfits come from!).

Your photographer may also be able to help you select appropriate outfits for your photoshoot. Many photographers have experience working with families and know what looks good in pictures. If you’re not sure what to wear, don’t be afraid to ask your photographer for advice.
