Sacramento Photographer | The Artist Behind The Lens

Hello, friends! It’s been a while since I’ve properly introduced myself, so let’s take a moment to reconnect and dive into my story—how I found my passion for photography and my journey toward creating timeless family heirlooms as your Sacramento Photographer.

My photography story began long before I even realized it. At the time, I was knee-deep in an incredibly stressful career in law enforcement. It was one of those jobs that weighed heavily on my heart and mind, and after a particularly life-altering call at work—one that affected far too many lives—something in me just snapped. The very next day, my husband and I were at Sam’s Club, and I spotted a Canon Rebel. Without overthinking it, I tossed it into the cart. I had no grand plans or ambitions; I didn’t even know what I was going to do with this camera. But something inside me knew I needed it.

At first, I used my new camera to take photos of my kids and our dogs. Then I started photographing my brother’s children. The more stressful and chaotic my job as a cop became, the more I found myself reaching for my camera. Looking back, I didn’t even realize what was happening—I was unknowingly gravitating toward photography as my escape. When insomnia would strike, I’d stay up at all hours, learning everything I could about photography. This was back before the days of endless YouTube tutorials and online courses—I’m talking about digging through actual books! Photography became my sanctuary, my calm in the storm.

What started as a personal outlet eventually evolved into a business, still serving as the therapy I so desperately needed. After leaving my career in law enforcement, I dove deeper than ever before, determined to make something out of this photography gig of mine. I continued to invest in myself and my craft, exploring different fields within photography. While I’ve been told by many to niche down and focus on one genre, the truth is, I’m just not wired that way. I crave change and variety, and each session brings a different joy into my life.

Newborns, in particular, always stole my heart—there’s something magical about capturing their tiny newness to perfection. But I love all the moments: making a pregnant mama feel absolutely radiant, laughing through cake smash sessions, creating lasting memories for families, and pushing my creativity with senior portraits. Each genre offers something special, and there’s no way I’m giving any of them up!

In 2019, I embarked on a new chapter as a mentor and educator, sharing my knowledge with fellow photographers. It started as helping other mentors with their coaching programs, then lead to me creating my own! Teaching has become yet another passion of mine, and it’s incredibly rewarding to look back over the last 12 years and see how far this journey has taken me.

Through photography, I’ve found a way to create more than just images—I’m creating heirlooms that families will treasure for generations. And that, to me, is the most fulfilling part of it all.
