Almond Bloom Photo Session: Tips From A Photographer
February 17, 2022
An Almond Bloom Photo Session is one of the most requested photo locations for spring photo sessions. The Almond Blooms is one of the most beautiful sights to see. Here in the Yuba/Sutter area, we are fortunate to have such a lovely sight great us every spring. As you drive around, it’s impossible not to be in awe of the breathtaking beauty these blooms offer! Every year I have clients who have their hearts set on having a photo session in these beautiful orchards. Every year I also have clients that miss it, because they don’t reach out in time and before we know it, the blooms are gone.
Almond trees blossom at different times throughout California, so the best time to take photos in an almond orchard will vary depending on the location. However, most of the almond blooms happen in late February and early March. If you’re looking for a photographer who has access to the almond orchards during this time, then you’ve come to the right place! In this blog post, we will discuss everything you need to know before going on a photo session in the blooming almond orchards!
First and foremost, it’s important to find a photographer that has access to these beautiful orchards. Not all property owners will allow people on their property for photo sessions, and it’s trespassing if you don’t have permission. So before booking a photographer, be sure to ask if they have access to an almond orchard for photo sessions.
If you are lucky enough to find a photographer with access, the next thing you need to do is plan your attire! Almond Bloom Photo Sessions can be done in casual attire or dressy attire – it’s up to you! Almond trees are white, so it’s best to avoid wearing shades of white when going on these photo sessions. To make your photos stand out, wear colors that contrast with the Almonds’ natural beauty and background. Since the weather can be warm during this time of year, and it can also quickly cool off I recommend wearing something that you can layer. It’s also a good idea to avoid bright colors, as they may not photograph well in the orchard setting. Neutral tones are always a safe bet when it comes to clothing for photography sessions. I absolutely love it when my clients use these Almond Bloom Photo Sessions for a chance to dress their families up a little on the dressier side for a change from their previous family photos. If you’re not sure what to wear, I am happy to help you with outfit ideas!
Almond Bloom Photo Sessions are a lot of fun and they offer some beautiful backdrops for family photos! Upon booking a session with me, my clients get access to a personalized styling service! It’s a great opportunity to have and allows you to get your family looking their absolute best for these once-in-a-lifetime photos. Almond Bloom Photo Sessions are gorgeous and I can’t wait to capture yours this season!
In addition to dressing appropriately, there are a few other things you should keep in mind before heading out for your almond bloom photo session. It’s important not to touch any of the almond flowers. Almond blooms are delicate and can easily be crushed. I always ask parents to keep a close eye on their children and not to let them climb the trees or rip branches or leaves off of the almond trees. We are guests on someone’s property, a property that their livelihoods depend on, so we need to treat it respectfully at all times.
Another thing to keep in mind is that these Almond Bloom Photo Sessions can last anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the location and how many photos we want to take. So be sure to bring water and snacks with you for your littles if you think they’ll need a little break, especially if it’s a hot day!
Lastly, please be aware that there are bees everywhere during almond bloom. Farmers bring in large amounts of bees to help pollinate their crops and the bees are very active and busy during this time of year. While I have never had a bee sting my clients (knock on wood), it is always a possibility, so please keep that in mind as well. If you are allergic to bees and you still wish to have an Almond Bloom Photo Session, I highly encourage you to bring your epi-pen to error on the side of caution.
