On My Shyness…  Sometimes, as parents, we have these high expectations that our toddlers are going to be absolutely perfect for their photo sessions.  Honestly, they usually are, we just tend to forget they are only toddlers.  It’s so important to remember that they often don’t understand what we are asking of them.  They get all dressed up in the perfect outfit that we spend hours on end trying to coordinate with the rest of the family, hop in the car, which often they fall asleep on the way to the location, get out and meet someone they likely have never met before.  To add to it, this person has the big ole camera with them and it’s total overload.  Even the most outgoing toddler is going to have reservations about this new person who’s suddenly trying to be their friend.  That’s completely normal!  When this happens, we work around it.  We embrace the sweetness and innocence of their age.  We let them do their thing and we capture their natural moments.  You don’t have to have the perfectly posed shot with the big plastered-on smile to have an image that’s going to melt your heart away-and a memory to last a lifetime.  This is life, it’s the real deal.  We have amazing moments filled with laughter, some with tears, and some just so-so.  It’s all part of our story.  I try to encourage parents not to get down when their child doesn’t “smile” for every photo.

For instance, this little cute wanted absolutely nothing to do with me.  She was VERY skeptical of me.  This definitely caught her parents by surprise as she’s normally a very outgoing and giggly girl.  Mom and dad were great sports about it and accepted that this is life.  This is life with a toddler.  This is human nature.  We still had a great time and we all acted like fools trying to get this cutie to appear amused by us.  I’m sure the people driving down the street passing us got a real kick out of it LOL.  Non the less, we captured memories that will last a lifetime, showing pure love and innocence.  In the end, I say that’s a win!  Thank you Burroughs family for choosing M.E.
