Roseville Photographer | This Is My Circus, and These Are My Monkeys
Every year since becoming a mom, I’ve made it a point to capture family photos. It’s a tradition that grounds me, reminding me of the love and chaos that make up this life. But this year? This year, it almost didn’t happen. Even as a Roseville Photographer, I almost missed out on my own family photos!
Schedules collided, life got hectic, and as time slipped away, my heart broke. I cried. I vented. I threw what can only be described as an adult tantrum. But deep down, I wasn’t ready to let go of this tradition, especially with only one child still living at home. So, as messy and imperfect as it was, we made it happen.
The Storm Behind the Smiles
It wasn’t smooth sailing. Far from it. This was the kind of photo session that makes you laugh in hindsight—but only after surviving it. Imagine 20 mph winds, a toddler who skipped their nap, and freezing temperatures. Let’s just say our collective mood matched the weather: chilly. But we pushed through.
The result? Photos that fill my heart to the brim. Looking at these moments frozen in time, I see the love, the struggle, and the bonds we’ve built. These people, while they are my circus and my monkeys, mean the absolute world to me. Through every storm, they’ve shaped me into who I am today. Each year that passes by as a Roseville Photographer, I do not take these moments for granted. I know that life is short and these memories will last forever.
Blended Families: A Unique Journey
If you’ve never been part of a blended family, it’s hard to fully grasp the complexity. The ups and downs, the unique dynamics, the way relationships ebb and flow—it’s a journey all its own.
My kids have been through so much together. They’ve forged bonds that are as unique as they are unbreakable. Each relationship is different, but all are deeply rooted in love.
And then there’s my granddaughter. There’s no shared DNA between us, but if you think that makes her any less mine, think again. She’s my baby girl, my sunshine on a cloudy day. Her laughter, her light, her love—they’re all gifts I cherish beyond words. Who would have ever known being her MiMi would be so wonderful!?!?
The Evolution of Family
As kids grow up, get married, and build their own lives, something changes. The family we once were shifts as they create families of their own. They have new traditions that evolve. Roles change. And this is not an easy adjustment for anyone.
There will always be a seat at my table for them, but I understand now that they aren’t just mine. Maybe that understanding comes easier for me because I’ve shared them for so long already. I’ve learned that family isn’t defined by blood—it’s defined by connection, love, and the memories we create together.
Why These Photos Matter
Looking at our most recent family photos, I feel a sense of gratitude that’s hard to put into words. It was chaos. It was cold. It was a struggle. But it was worth it. These images are a tangible reminder of our love, resilience, and the beautiful mess that is our family.
As a Roseville Photographer, I know firsthand how important these moments are. It’s not just about smiling at the camera—it’s about capturing the essence of your family, the connections, and the story you’re writing together.
So yes, this was a circus. Yes, it was a mess. But they are my circus, my mess, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
