What If My Newborn Won’t Sleep? | Sacramento Newborn Photographer
As a newborn photographer, I have worked with countless families who have had concerns about their newborns not sleeping during their photoshoots. It’s a common worry for parents and something that I am always prepared to handle.
Newborn photography sessions typically take place within the first two weeks of a baby’s life when they are still very sleepy and can easily be posed in those adorable curled-up positions. However, not all babies are the same, and some may not sleep as much as others.
So, what should you do if your newborn won’t sleep during the photo session? Here are a few tips from a photographer’s perspective:
Be Patient: The first thing to remember is that newborns are unpredictable, and it’s essential to have patience during the photo shoot. If the baby is awake, it’s not necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes, awake shots can be just as beautiful as sleeping ones. Plus, with some patience, your baby may eventually fall asleep, and we can capture those adorable sleepy poses.
Feeding Time: Newborns often get hungry during the photo shoot, so it’s a good idea to have a feeding session right before the session. A well-fed baby is more likely to be content and sleepy, which makes it easier to take those beautiful photos. It’s important to stop and take breaks for the baby to feed during the session as well if they begin showing signs that they are hungry.
Comfortable Environment: A comfortable environment is crucial during a newborn photography session. The room should be warm, and the baby should be swaddled in soft and comfortable blankets. White noise can also help soothe the baby and create a relaxing environment.
Flexibility: As a newborn photographer, I understand that babies can be unpredictable. That’s why I always have a flexible schedule to allow for breaks and extra time. If the baby isn’t cooperating, taking a break can help calm them down, and we can resume the photoshoot later.
Stay Calm: Babies can pick up on our energy, so it’s essential to remain calm during the photoshoot. If the baby senses any stress or tension, it can make them more fussy and difficult to handle.
In conclusion, it’s normal to worry about your newborn not sleeping during a photography session. However, with patience, preparation, and flexibility, we can still capture beautiful photos of your little one. Remember to trust your photographer and work together to create a comfortable and relaxing environment for your baby.
