When to take family photos? That’s a question I see asked a lot. The truth is, there’s no wrong time to take family photos – unless you’re dealing with inclement weather, of course! But there are definitely times of year that are more popular than others for taking family portraits. In this blog post, I will give you some tips on when to take family photos and what to expect during different seasons!
When To Take Family Photos: Fall
One of the most popular times of the year for family photos is by far the Fall Season. When it comes down to it, fall is an excellent season for taking family photos. The leaves start changing color around October/November (depending on your location), the scenery is absolutely beautiful. The weather is typically still great in the early fall season, but as it hits peak season, you can definitely find yourself getting chilly, so be sure to plan your wardrobe accordingly. Many people choose to do their photos this time of year so they can use images for their Christmas cards and even for gifts for the holiday season. If you’re hoping to use these images for the holiday season then you will want to be sure to book with a photographer early so you are able to get your images back in time to use them for what you hope for.
When To Take Family Photos: Winter
Many people don’t think of winter as an ideal time for family photos. Winter can be an unpredictable season in terms of weather and temperatures (and sometimes even snow), but it can be a great time of year to take family photos. When you’re dressed in warm coats and scarves, the cold weather is kept at bay, and you’re free to enjoy your outdoor family photo session! The winter accessories can really jazz up your clothing choices, and make for a fun switch. if you leave somewhere where a trip to the snow is possible, this can be so much fun! I mean who wouldn’t want to have a snowball fight during their family photos?!?!
When To Take Family Photos: Spring
When you think of spring one of the first things that come to my mind is flowers! Spring weather can bring gorgeous blooms and fields of wildflowers that can make a beautiful backdrop for a family photo session. When you’re dealing with the spring weather, however, be prepared for anything – including rain! The weather changes quickly this time of year, but if you’re flexible, you’re certain to get amazing photos! One of the most popular spring photo opportunities here in Northern California Is the Blooming Almond Orchards.
When To Take Family Photos: Summer
Summers are often filled with family vacations, destination locations, and once-in-a-lifetime trips. With all this excitement, summers are definitely a popular time of year for family photos, especially if you’re looking to take advantage of outdoor locations or if you’re on a vacation and looking for a fun way to document a memorable trip. However, since this season is so hot in many areas, it’s important to keep hydrated and bring along a couple of water bottles to ensure that everyone stays cool while they’re being photographed. Northern California also offers beautiful lakes with beach-like settings and fields of lupine flowers in the summer months. Also, we can’t forget those sunflower fields that people love as well!
So, when is the best time of year to take family photos? When your schedule allows! However, if you’re looking for specific seasons that are popular for taking photos, Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer all have their own benefits. Just be sure to dress appropriately for the weather conditions and enjoy your session!
