I’m constantly asked by parents “What camera should I get?” Parents all around are looking for ways to document their children’s lives. To create memories and to have something to remind them of their day-to-day life. While you can buy the best camera in the world, the truth is, you likely won’t always have it with you!

I can tell you first hand that I’m THE WORST and bringing my camera places. A large majority of the photos that I have of my children are on my smartphone. This is why I always tell parents that the best camera they can purchase is the one that they’ll have with them! That usually means your smartphone. We almost always carry them with us, and over the years, technology has transformed and produced some really amazing things. The cameras in our smartphones have progressed and now pack a big punch. They take great photos, the problem is that you just need to know how to use them.

Here are some tips and tricks on how to take amazing photos with your smartphone:

– Find a great location. When taking photos, finding a great location is key! This could be anywhere from your backyard to a beautiful park. There are a lot of things that make locations great. A family trip, a ball field, wherever your kids are in their element is pretty much a great place!

– Use natural light. One of the best things about taking photos with your smartphone is that you have access to great natural light! So use it! If you’re taking a photo outside, try and take it during the daytime when the sun is shining. This will give your photos a beautiful glow.

– Get close. Another thing to remember when taking photos with your smartphone is to get close! This will help you fill the frame with your subject and make for a more powerful photo.

– Use the gridlines. Most smartphones have built-in gridlines that can be turned on in the camera settings. This will help you compose your photos better by helping you keep things straight and level.

– Edit your photos. Once you’ve taken your photos, don’t forget to edit them! This is a great way to make your photos look even better and add some creative flair. There are a lot of different photo editing apps out there that can help you do this. But even just adjusting the brightness can make a world of difference.

By following these tips, you’ll be taking amazing photos with your smartphone in no time! So get out there and start documenting those memories.
